43rd Grand Chapter to Honor Christopher Mauer
The 43rd Grand Chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity, Inc. has been renamed the Christopher Mauer Grand Chapter, honoring 34th National President Christopher Mauer, Phi '91 (Southeastern Louisiana University) who died Thursday, January 31, 2008 from injuries in a fire that destroyed his home on December 24, 2007.
"On signal occasions our Fraternity has named its annual meeting for cherished brothers. The Fraternity Board of Directors appropriately decided by unanimous ballot that our fallen president Chris Mauer should be honored in this way," said Executive Vice President Bill Bernier.
Chris gave what proved to be lifetime service and leadership to Sigma Tau Gamma. He was Phi Chapter President as an undergraduate. He served Beta Kappa Chapter during its reformation as colony mentor from 1995-1997, District Director for the Gold Coast District from 1997-2000, and Regional Vice President of the Southern Region from 2000-2002. He was elected to the National Board of Directors at the 40th Grand Chapter in 2002 and to the office of President-elect at the 41st Grand Chapter in 2004. He began his term as 34th National President at the 42nd Grand Chapter in 2006.
Chris was devoted to his wife Holly and sons Christopher, Cameron, and Carter. Holly plans to attend the Grand Chapter. Holly said, "Chris and I were so looking forward to this Grand Chapter. I want to be there for him."
The Christopher Mauer Grand Chapter will be held July 31 - August 2, 2008 at the Sheraton Westport Chalet Hotel in St. Louis. Visit the Fraternity website (www.sigmataugamma.org) to learn more and to register or call (800) 366-4784.
