Who is that grey-headed old man in that photo and what is he doing there?
The answer is that he is Bill Hardebeck, a retired public school principal in St. Louis. He is in that photo because his is also a chapter advisor.
You may know that Bill Hardebeck is the President of the Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation. That is important work. But, he would agree that his most important work in Sigma Tau Gamma is as a chapter advisor.
A chapter advisor is a mentor and a coach. Young men need a wise “old man” in their lives. If they sense that he really cares about them, they are willing to heed his lessons. They need him and they know it.
Emmett Ellis knew it. Even though he was a 29 year-old veteran of the First World War, a corpsman who faced the worst atrocities that man can do to man, he understood that he and his fellow founders needed an advisor. He recruited Dr. Wilson C. Morris, the first Sigma Tau Gamma advisor.
You may already be an advisor. If so, we hope that the information in this section will be helpful to you. If you do not find what you are looking for, please contact us. We will do our best to help.
Perhaps you have been invited to be a chapter advisor. If so, we hope that you will think about the men who were mentors to you and that you will decide to repay their investment in you by investing in the young men of your Sigma Tau Gamma chapter.
If you are a new chapter advisor, please give us your contact information so that we may support you.
