By Josh Floyd, Chapter Development Counselor Where am I? Emporia State University June 21, 2012 - This week’s “How To Tuesday” blog is about utilizing the summer months to benefit your chapter. Whether you’re volunteering, hanging out with your brothers, or holding a workshop, you need to stay active and start preparing for the upcoming semester. Alex and I had the opportunity to travel to three chapters in two different states this weekend who are doing just that. It was great to see the hard work these chapters have put in!
Next, we headed to the Beta Zeta Chapter at the University of Central Oklahoma. Alex and I spent the day at a cook out and pool party hosted by the chapter. Many potential new members were in attendance. The following day, Alex and I presented a recruitment workshop to the chapter members. This workshop helped the brothers set goals for the fall semester and together, we brainstormed ways to achieve them. It was great to see the determination that the Beta Zeta Chapter has for the upcoming school year. Last Year Beta Zeta recruited 20 men in the fall, this year they hope to raise that number to 30. The Epsilon Chapter at Pittsburg State University was the last chapter we visited. The Epsilon Brother’s were volunteering at Pitt C.A.R.E.S (Campus Advisement, Registration, and Enrollment Services), a freshman orientation seminar. Pitt C.A.R.E.S. was a great opportunity for the chapter to meet freshmen, talk about joining Greek life, and give tours of the Sigma Tau Gamma chapter house. The Epsilon Chapter received 10 names of potential members during ONE Pitt C.A.R.E.S. They have 50 names of potential members already this summer!
The men of the Epsilon Chapter have planned two great events for their potential members. Throughout the summer, they will be hosting events at Buffalo Wild Wings and going to Kansas City Royals games. Like the Beta Zeta Chapter, they have also set a recruitment goal for themselves, 25-30 new members in the fall. TIP: Make sure you are frequently in contact with people on your names list, shoot them a quick text message asking about their summer or answer questions they have about coming to school. It's important to build personal relationships when recruiting men of principle. Let us know what your chapter is up to this summer at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The Delta Chapter at Emporia State University was the first stop of our trip. The Brothers of the Delta Chapter took us to watch a Wichita Wingnuts baseball game. While at the game, the Delta Chapter stated that they have already signed six men this summer! By the fall semester starts, they hope to have a total of 15 signed.
members already this summer!
