Alpha Phi Alumnus Honored During Spring Commencement PDF Print E-mail

May 15, 2012 – Michael Dittrich, Alpha Phi ’98, Assistant Principal of Hancock Place Elementary in St. Louis, Mo. was honored at the spring commencement ceremonies at Southeastern Missouri State University (SEMO), home of the Alpha Phi Chapter, this past week with the College of Education Young Alumni of Merit award. His focus on reaching out to the community, improving academic programs, and building relationships with his staff were among many of the attributes that earned Michael this recognition.

"Sigma Tau Gamma was instrumental in growing me into a man that values service to the community, thirst for knowledge, and valuing individual talents of others.” Said Dittrich, who praises his fraternity f or his success in education, “The principles of Sigma Tau Gamma serve as a foundation for the decisions I make concerning my staff and students every day."

Dittrich has also been recognized as the St. Louis Suburban Area Elementary Principals Association's Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year this March. He was then selected from a group of extraordinary candidates from across Missouri as the Missouri Elementary Assistant Principal of the Year. In addition, the National Elementary Association recognized him as a National Outstanding Elementary Assistant Principal for Elementary School Principals .

After graduating Hancock High School in 1994, Dittrich went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in elementary education at SEMO in 1999. Then, in 2002, he continued h is education at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo. by receiving his masters in school administration while this past summer earned his educational specialists degree. Starting in July, Dittrich will begin a new position in the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District.
